    Default Potential Numpty Question! Decats

OK - forgive the potential basic lack of knowledge here but can someone 100% confirm whether engine bay temperatures rise or fall if decatting a 355?

    Thanks

    Interesting question.

With cats, the cats would dissipate more heat into the engine compartment due to their increased surface area over test pipes.

Without cats that heat would go to the mufflers, so still in the engine compartment.

I’d take a guess and say it doesn’t make any real difference, unless you wrap the test pipes in heat shield.

But it would be interesting to see.

Both my 355's used to heat my garage up like a furnace after a run, I never had this with later cars including V12's.

The 355 did seem to generate an inordinate amount of heat from the engine bay (both had cats, one standard exhaust, one tubi).

    Hence my question -

do decats raise engine bay temps or lower them or make diddly squat difference at all!!

I'm surprised no-one has chimed in yet on this - perhaps someone with racing knowledge?

From my 348 perspective it is defiantly cooler in the engine bay with wrapped test pipes. I had good working cats fitted initially so could compare to some extent.
