And I just swapped my 458 for - an F430 gated manual!! How funny is that?!

Absolutely loved loved loved my 458. Stunning car all around and I'll own another 458 in the (near) future.

Why did I sell it and buy the gated 430? Well it has to be the stick shift, 430 noise and (main reason),driving engagement in the 430.

I'm actually very surprised at my perception after owning the 430. The 430 is a "never sell" car for me.

The 458 is incredible, but I felt I could forgo it currently for the 430.

Both amazing cars and your 458 looks gorgeous.

I believe ownership of these cars is a privilege and it's so great being able to swap stories on a forum like this.

It's great that you have experienced both cars. Love your ride, whatever that may be

Normally is at this time of year when quite a few cars are off the road for the winter.

It's also a relatively small forum as most members are taken from a smallish demographic. You'll get far more responses on PH from people with strongly held opinions. Granted it'll be from people who haven't driven the car and base that opinion on what they've seen and heard on YouTube, but you'll get more responses.

For what it's worth I read your post and although I've not driven either a manual 430 or 458 I can relate to your point of view. I've driven newer cars than mine but prefer the mechanical feel of the older models. Totally understand that others prefer the more modern cars though.

..and some of us have just returned from a holiday.

I love the look of the 458 but that said I like the look of most Ferraris I've seen. I'm also easily pleased regarding both new and old cars. I just like cars

Got around to fitting the forza exhaust valve controller over the New Year.

Some info. for anyone fitting to a 458 Italia -

I managed to do it without removing the rear bumper, by accessing the 2 x controlling solenoids by removing the air box cover and rear diffuser only (If you have very large hands / wrists you would likely have to remove the bumper as itís very tight to get your hands in between the gap between car body and air box). I also had to lift the rear end of the car up to get enough reach from underneath to remove the clips that secure the electrical connectors onto the solenoids. (For the 458 Spider, I believe bumper removal may be mandatory)

Despite having the red LED on the forza unit lit once all connected as per instructions, it was not operating the valves.
After correspondence with Steve Bisel who manufactures these units in the states, I found that I wasnít getting a good enough earth (low voltage).
I found a + 12v earth point using a multimeter, then all was good and itís operating as it should.

I did a short vid for Steve so he could check I had everything connected correctly when I found it wasnít working, which may be of interest to some *Do not use the earth point in the vid - this was the bad one

Iíve mounted the controller unit on the inside of the rear bumper, itís out of the heat and water here and I can also keep an eye on it -

Iíve mentioned previously that having the valves open at low rpmís transforms the low speed experience in the 458, but the forza system provides the best of all worlds, especially to quiet down for m-way work. I also have the latest version of the controller which allows me to set the default at start-up to valves open

The forza unit is very well made and the service from Steve is first class, with my calls for assistance answered within minutes, not hours.

Thanks also to Mark C for the recommendation

Thanks for your comments, interesting on your thought on the manual g/box.

I'd like to own loads of Ferrari's (wouldn't we all), If I'm ever in the position to indulge, I would likely look at an 'older' manual model, but having never driven a manual 430, I shouldn't really comment.

Slightly off topic, I heard about the £115m Euro Millions win today, got me daydreaming about what percentage would be spent on Ferrari's - I thought about 10% at least

Me too...... Iíd have given the Ďspareí 14 million away this morning and switched the Wales weekend to a CS pilota course at Fiorano. Then gone to DK looking for an F40 in the afternoon. It would have been far better than the day I actually had

Nice work with the controller....We can now look forward to some extra noise in May...

A lack of maintenance jobs required on the 458 got my attention turned to finding something else to keep me in the garage over the winter, so decided to kill some dead space and add lots of extra house storage by filling one wall with cupboards.

I got the units from Argos and had my first go at carbon wrapping on the cabinet doors . Much cheaper than going to one of those fancy garage specialists

Looks good Mike. Where did you get the carbon wrap from?

PS If you are having withdrawal symptoms re. maintenance, pop over I've got a couple of jobs to do and I would even put the kettle on
